The extension would be the largest total salary in WNBA history for a player coming off a rookie contract.

Clark admitted she hasn’t given it “much thought” yet — she’s been playing golf every day since the season ended — but she made one thing clear: whatever she signs, it has to help the Fever win.

“My focus is on winning,” Clark said Thursday. “I certainly know what I deserve and what I’m worth, but at the same time sometimes you have to make sacrifices.”

The context is hard to ignore. Teammate Aliyah Boston set the market heading into this season, signing a four-year, $6.3 million extension after her 2025 All-WNBA Second Team selection — the richest total salary in league history. Clark and 2026 Defensive Player of the Year Angel Reese are the next stars in line for that same extension path, with Paige Bueckers eligible in 2028 after her All-WNBA Second Team selection as a rookie.

Clark said the decision will come down to roster math.

“I think it’s just kind of figuring out the way we need to construct our roster,” she said, noting the extension is “a really cool opportunity” and a sign of respect for young players — but that winning a championship has to come first.

That framing matters, because Indiana’s offseason is loaded with decisions. Kelsey Mitchell, Sophie Cunningham, Myisha Hines-Allen and Tyasha Harris are all headed for unrestricted free agency. After three straight seasons falling short of a Finals appearance, the Fever need Clark’s signature to anchor a roster that can finally break through.

For now, Clark isn’t rushing. The extension window opens heading into 2027, and Indiana has time to build the contender she is asking for. Her message to the front office was unmistakable: pay me what I’m worth, but build a team that can win it all.

Caitlin Clark is eligible for the richest contract of her young career — and she has exactly one thing on her mind.
