The Dallas Wings were one loss from elimination on Wednesday night. Arike Ogunbowale made sure that was not happening. The veteran shooting guard poured in a WNBA playoff-record 45 points as the seventh-seeded Wings beat the Golden State Valkyries 108-100 in overtime in Arlington, forcing a winner-take-all Game 3 on Friday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The winner of the series advances to the semifinals to face the winner of the Aces-Fever series.Ogunbowale’s 45 points broke the previous playoff single-game record of 42, which was shared in a three-way tie by Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Angel McCoughtry. The four-time All-Star shot 12-of-23 from the floor, 5-of-8 from three-point range and 16-of-18 from the free-throw line, adding 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. She saved her best for the moments that mattered most. With 4.1 seconds left in regulation and Dallas trailing, Ogunbowale drilled an off-balance corner three to tie the game 93-93 and force overtime. She then opened the extra period by banking in a three-pointer and later hit another from deep to put the Wings ahead for good at 103-100 with 1:46 remaining.Ogunbowale scored 11 of Dallas’ 15 points in overtime — Golden State managed only 7 — tying Lindsay Whalen’s record for the most points in a postseason overtime period, according to the Wings. The performance was a complete turnaround from Game 1, when Ogunbowale managed just 10 points on seven shot attempts in the loss. “I didn’t know what I would score. I just knew that I was going to shoot regardless because I just feel like seven shots isn’t enough like to win in the playoffs, and I have to be aggressive whether it’s going in or not,” she said.”It was a dogfight. Like, they’re a really, really, really tough team to play,” she added. The Wings also snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Valkyries and hung 108 points on them — the most points Golden State allowed all season. Dallas attempted 37 free throws on the night, with Ogunbowale doing much of the damage at the stripe. “Arike likes that left step-back… when she’s rolling, we have to respond,” Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase said. “She did a hell of a job… drew a ton of fouls. We got to play smarter.”Dallas got help beyond its star. Alysha Clark came off the bench for a season-high 21 points, and Aziaha James added 13. Paige Bueckers, the 2025 No. 1 overall pick and Rookie of the Year making her postseason debut, had a quiet night with 10 points on 3-of-13 shooting — but she knew who carried the team. “Arike is definitely different,” Bueckers said.Golden State nearly stole it behind a career-high 36 points from Gabby Williams, who went 12-of-23 from the field but missed all six of her shots in the final 1:31 of overtime. Kaila Charles added 14 points, Kayla Thornton 13, and Veronica Burton and Janelle Salaun chipped in 11 apiece. The Valkyries, in just their second season as a franchise, won the series opener by 24 points and are still chasing the first playoff series win in team history. Now they head home to San Francisco, where one game will decide everything.
